As many of you are aware the wave at crab island is under threat.

It is feared by local surfers that a new construction proposed by Clare County Council will cause the wave to become unsurfable.

West Coast Surf Club has proposed a Win – Win situation.

“A design where the ferries have a pier that meets their requirements and does not damage the waves with backwash. Simply moving the pier back towards the existing one by about 50m and dredging a little deeper inside the pier should achieve this. It would also have the added effect of lessening the amount of damage done to the pier by the massive winter swells that pound this stretch of coast.”

In order for Clare County Council to take this proposal seriously the West Coast Surf Club is asking surfers to sign a petition. The petition can be signed here.

http://www.petitiononline.com/Doolin10/petition.html

Is you wish to read more about the proposal and views of the locals you can read this thread in Longboard Ireland.

http://longboardirl.2.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=5816

The more signatures the petition has the stronger the case for Doolin will be. Please sign.

On June the 2nd We were contacted by a group of local surfers, who had heard that Kinsale Energy was planning on closing Inch beach so that a new gas pipeline could be installed. This pipeline would take gas directly from a platform offshore to an existing site near Inch beach.

The Pipeline would cause the beach to be closed for a period and Local surfers fear that it may cause the beach to become un-surfable.

It is also believed that the construction of the new pipeline would be allowed as planning would not be required as a gas pipeline already exists, which the proposed new pipeline could run alongside of.

This is the project proposed by Kinsale Energy. http://www.kinsaleenergy.ie/downloads/Kinsale_Energy.pdf

I would like to thank everyone that came up and helped yesterday, with a special thanks to the team of Google staff that came up from Dublin, especially for the clean up for the day and local Declan McGuinness from local Drogheda pub / club Fusion.

We collected 52 80 liters bags of rubbish cleaning up the strand and the dunes. The rubbish ranged from the usual beer cans, local take away bags / plastic forks / containers, vodka bottle, cigarette ends, various plastics to more unusual socks, tricycles, broken crutch, underwear, car batteries, etc

Thanks to the Meath County Council for supporting us in collecting the bags and bringing them to Sonairte in Laytown, The National Ecology Centre – www.sonairte.ie

Keep an eye out for local residents regular clean ups – Chris

The Clare county coucil has just errected a 2m barrier preventing access to the
fanore car park area. This has not only prevented a lot of local people and
beach users from accessing the beach (as some of them only have a van or
jeep) but has already proven to be a hazard today.

Lots of tourist buses and mini buses stop at the beach and are now simply
parking on the busy main road, as well as attempting to reverse on the
narrow main road.

Additionally the guys running the surf school can’t even access their shack
as all they have is van and jeeps. The car par is the only parking space in
the area, this will cause major road issues with the coming summer days.

I’ve sent a mail to clare county coucil as well as the local coucillors and
can only encourage to you do the same:

Contact the local coucillors now!
